seventeen of thirty

(17) technology :: sorry for the somewhat crap photo, but it's been two extremely busy days!! I was lucky to get anything in at all!! So anyway... I am a gadget girl. I embrace technology and am tech support for pretty much everyone I know. Out of all the gadgets in my life, none can rival the iPhone. At this point, I could simply not live without live without it. I am so excited for the new one - supposed to be out within the next month! I will be there day one for sure!!

(16) long exposure :: hello chicago! 27 sec exposure watching the clouds overtake the city and the rain begin to fall. Only fired off about 10 shots before it got too wet, but I think this one is a keeper!

Took this shot east of Montrose Harbor. Not a whole lot of people out since it was raining, but I did see a raccoon diggin' in the rubbish bin for tonights dinner. Eew!!  Oh and I think my 8 gig CF card is on it's way out.  Been acting funny lately and not wanting to create folders.  Which brings me to a question for you photographers out there... do you "erase" images after each shoot or do you "format" the card after every shoot??

(13) me with thirteen things :: This was easy - I love the website The Burning House.  It's a feed of people from all different ages, countries, interests that take a photograph to represent what you would take with you if your house was burning down.  Super hard to pick amongst my belongings because I like 'stuff.'  But when it comes down to it, there are only a few things that I would really need if the house was burning down.

[ from top left ] wallet . water bottle . (ignore the cat toy ... only way to get the kids in the shot) . Phoebe . camera bag full of equipment . Lucy . laptop . back up drive w/photo library . iPhone . passport . photo albums.  What would you take?

(11) something blue :: Tweaked my back something awful from running around the city yesterday carrying way too many bags. Called for a last minute appointment for a massage at Asha tonight. And thank goodness they had an opening and a pretty good massage therapist. He did all sorts of stretching and twisted me in every which way. I feel better, but this one might take a few days to work itself out. I guess it's time for more lower back exercises huh...

So ladies... here's my question for you.  Birthday suit or bikini for a massage?  I never know how far to go...

(10) childhood memory :: OK, am I the only one that thought this was next to impossible? I have a zillion childhood memories, most of which I cannot think how to photograph now ... It did get me digging into the memory archives and I decided to go with my first memory. Apparently I was four, it was June 18, 1977 and Elvis was on stage at Kansas City's Kemper Arena. My mother, a huge Elvis fan, went to see him and left me at home with my father for the night. I don't remember a whole lot, but I remember that he fixed me a TV dinner, likely my first. It was just two months later that Elivs died and I remember my mother was sad.

Why on earth would this be my oldest memory? Who the heck knows ... but Elvis was always in the house. I remember my parents had a HUGE record collection (that they later sold and bought a truck!), and tons of Elvis memorabilia. He was damn good lookin' in his younger years ... pre rhinestone jumpsuit era. *wink*

(9) someone you love :: this one it hard for me because the people I love the most do not live near me.  So... meet Mary Ellen.  She's the bestest grandmother a girl could have!  We used to play tiddly winks at the kitchen table after feasting on the yummiest home cookin' after church on Sundays. We would run around the farm and feed the left overs to the barn kitties.  I would ride in the back of the wagon full of soy beans while she and my grandfather were pulling in the harvest.  She would measure me against the growth of the corn each year and I would help her hang laundry out on the line to dry.  She makes the most delicious parker house type rolls and would ship them to me after I moved to Chicago along with homemade grape elderberry jelly that she would pack in chex mix to keep it safe and provide an extra treat.  She's simply the bees knees!!

She's a whopping 92 years old and currently living with my parents after suffering stroke almost one year ago.  Her spirit is strong.  She laughs a lot and is cared for by another spectacular person, my mom. xoxo

(8) a bad habit :: Yeah, so ... I'm really bad about wearing my glasses. I squint at the computer screen more and more everyday, but somehow that does not make me reach into my bag to grab for my glasses. It's ridiculous. I even purchased brand new glasses that are titanium and so light that I barely feel them on my face ... and still no. Bad. Bad. Bad!

(7) fruit :: "how about them apples?" I gotta be honest, this is the only fruit in my house. I'm a SUPER picky eater and do not like many fruits and just don't keep them in the house. They go bad before I eat them, so I buy and eat same day only.  However, I've got all sorts of these silver apples around the house... *wink*

Hope you had a great weekend!
