Ice formations

Like I've never seen here in Chicago before! I love living near the lake. Each day I drive home from downtown I get a glimpse. I cannot help but look and admire every time. Today was no different. And what I saw were these amazing ice shelves. I rounded the bend to park, tightened my scarf and ventured out to see.

Upon parking I see this amazing ice cave. I had to trudge over the icy beach to see it and wow! I have never seen anything like this before. Experiencing seasons in Chicago can be pretty amazing.

I decided to document my travel day this past Sunday. From sunny San Diego to gray, very windy Chicago. It was a long day of travel and I have to say I was very sad to leave the beautiful temps in SD. I may have to "snow bird" like the old folks. Hope you had a lovely day. Here's my ten on travel.

Jan 23 2015 : something far away : the city! Popped down to North Ave beach tonight for some night shots of the city - handheld - and got a few keepers. Sadly the Fuji won't go out of focus like the Canon does. Need to look into that.

opera night

Only a couple of weeks into the year and I've checked off another bucket list item - attend the Lyric Opera here in Chicago.  Check!  One of my friends hit me up mid afternoon saying she had an extra (free) ticket for tonights performance of Anna Bolena, so I jumped at the chance.  It was in Italian, of course, with english subtitles which I found helpful - the only other opera I've seen was IN Italy and also in Italian no subtitles.  I thought they did a great job of using the set, the voices were amazing - the lead actually suffering from a throat infection only made it about 3/4 of the way through before her understudy came in for the last few sets.  Both were outstanding and the transition was pretty seamless - I've never see this happen during a show.  A perfectly delightful way to spend a winter evening.
