March 24 : a treasure : just came across these old letters from my friend Kathryn sent while she was living in France one summer during college. They are a treasure indeed! #snailmail I sometimes miss 'mail.' There's just something about a handwritten message that is so different from a text, tweet, or email.
March 16 : after... after twelve years we pick up like no time has passed. #friendship this is my friend Heather. She's one of the people I've known the longest in my life. She lived around the corner from my grandparents, so lots of time with each other as little people. Love to see her after so many years and so happy!
I have decided to do my ten photos on a weekend even when the tenth falls on a weekday because on a day like today, I wouldn't even be able to think about taking a photo I was so busy at the office. Besides, the weekends are way more photogenic! So this is my Sunday : woke up to John Legend singing me "good morning" : brunch with my amazing friend Laura who just finished her last round of chemo (yay!) and I had to get a photo of her in the adorable pink monkey cap - on loan from a friends daughter (how sweet is that?) : took a little photo walk downtown and captured a couple of spots I have been searching for - this view of where all the L train lines come together (love) : then some shopping at West Elm, and Jayson Home (oh this place is a designers dream) where I picked up a beautiful little fern and a succulent - had no idea they aren't to be watered and are to just die after a few months (hmmm) : picked up some pastries at Patisserie Coralie for dinner and then logged a little sofa time with Phoebe and the housewives of ... (wink)
March 8 : young : sweet miss Em. Isn't she just the most beautiful little sleeping baby?
Jan 19 2015 : handmade : quilt by Mom. She's a quilting and embroidery machine! And so generous with her creativity - teaching and giving quilts away. Even her tag is lovely! 
Jan 15 2015 : old : my favorite family pic : my grandfather Sloan as a young boy. I love the texture, color, paper and presentation, exposure - it's just so cool. Photography is cool. And, of course, love his little bow tie and knickers.
Another photoshoot with my friend Will. He is a great subject for practice! I have another family shoot coming up this next weekend, so I needed to test out a different lens to see if I go prime and ditch the zoom or stick with the zoom... Really liking the light and bokeh from the 85mm. 
My friend Steve does work that requires him to have new headshots all the time so we went around town snapping to see if we could get anything he could use for a couple of upcoming job auditions. We got a couple of decent shots - but I just really struggle with portraits. How do you get the skin tone the same with different light conditions, how do you get genuine smiles out of people (even if you know them) how do you find just the right backdrop and blur. Let's just say I do much better with architecture and landscapes ... All that said, we had a great day from the Art Institute to Millennium Park, cocktails at the Wit, walking the west loop and capping it all off with dinner @ The Publican - yum!!

Congrats on the feature Bern! Oh and he even gives a mention to our super awesome design professor Richard Branham from 'ol KU.

I don't know about you, but 2013 seemed to just fly by... so fast! I am hoping 2014 has great things ahead in all aspects of life! I don't like to make resolutions - mostly because I know I'd never keep them - but I may set a few goals for the coming year. Why not, right!?! So here's to 2014:
I will try to remember to post at the end of the year to see how I did on each of these ... wish me luck!
